We'd always recommend modern triple glazed windows for optimal thermal performance, however, there are some cases where this isn't possible due to conservation areas and listed building restrictions. Secondary glazing is ideal if you want to improve your home's energy efficiency while preserving original windows. It's perfect for listed buildings, conservation areas, and period properties where replacing the windows altogether isn't feasible.
Will secondary glazing reduce noise?
Yes - as well as improving energy efficiency, secondary glazing is also effective at reducing external noise.
Is planning permission required?
Secondary glazing usually doesn't require planning permission, making it ideal for listed buildings and conservation areas. However, we recommend checking with your local authority.
